What is Sexual Assault?
- The term Sexual Assault may include acts of rape, incest, molestation and sexual harassment.
- Before the age of 18, 1 out of 3 girls will be sexually assaulted
- In their lifetime, 1 out of 4 women will be sexually assaulted
- 1 out of 6 boys will be sexually assaulted before the age of 18
- Only 1 out of 10 sexual assaults are reported
- 85% of sexual assaults are perpetrated by someone the victim knows
- 75% of sexual assaults involve drugs or alcohol
- In 70% of all domestic violence situations, there is also evidence of sexual assault

- Rape is a crime of passion.

- Rape is a crime of violence, control, & power.

- Rape is an infrequent event that only happens to certain kinds of people such as attractive young women and/or women who are promiscuous.

- Anyone can be sexually assaulted. Victims are people from every age group, ethnic background, religious affiliation, sexual preference, and socio-economic status.

- A rape is provoked by a person's behavior. “They asked for it” by being drunk, wearing tight clothing, staying out late, etc.

- No one asks to be sexually assaulted, nor does anyone's behavior justify the crime. The offender, not the survivor, is always responsible for the crime.

- Men cannot be raped, they are strong and can defend themselves if being sexually assaulted.

- Men are often attacked by gangs, assaulted with weapons, and taken by surprise. Drugs and alcohol can be a factor involved.

Requirement for Services : Social security number and Medicaid information (If applicable) are required for intake. Desert View accepts Medicaid, private insurance and utilizes an income based sliding fee scale.

We also have funding from various grants available. Sources of Funding : DOH-BHSD (Department of Health Behavioral Health Services Division) CYFD (Children's Youth and Families Department), CBH (Children's Behavioral Health-Optum Health), VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) and SJUW (San Juan United Way).
