About Us

Mission Statement

Desert Views Mission is to support, empower, and advocate for all survivors of sexual abuse, rape and other trauma. We strive toward eliminating any form of violence and oppression against adults and children by specializing in routine, urgent and emergency counseling services in San Juan County.

Our other goal is to help you find solutions to the struggles you may be facing at home with your troubled teen. If our therapy program does not meet your child’s needs, then we will recommend other treatment options for you and your family. We can help you, and your troubled teen, build new paths to success.

Goal

To provide community education and prevention services, as well as specialized counseling, client advocacy, and case (client) management services for survivors and their families.

We collaborate with local law enforcement, criminal justice and medical professions to ensure the best possible treatment outcomes for survivors and other clients.

Desert View also offers a 24 hour crisis line and community education/prevention services. Desert View is committed to working with At Risk Youth and their families to restore hope and harmony .

History

Desert View Counseling was formed as a non-profit agency in the early spring of 1995 and opened its doors in Aztec, New Mexico. Initial funding began July 1, 1995 to provide mental health counseling for sexual abuse victims and victims of domestic violence, of either gender, ages 4 and up. Desert View uses a wellness approach to therapy utilizing professional counseling to transition from victim to survivor to thriver.

Desert View's next task was to begin working with At Risk Youth and their families to restore harmony back into the family setting. Shortly after that, Desert View then began to address the need for counseling and prevention for juvenile sex offenders (sexually reactive youth) ages 4-18.

In January 1998, Desert View Counseling was accepted as a San Juan United Way member agency. Over the last 17 years, Desert View has acquired numerous State, Federal and Foundation grants to help secure agency funding; however, more is always needed.

Desert View currently staffs an Executive Director; four masters level therapists including a clinical supervisor, one case manager and outreach coordinator, a finance coordinator, an advocate and receptionist. Clinical supervision takes place regularly for all clinical staff.

Desert View currently has seven volunteer members that make up our Board of Directors. President Tyler Merrill, Vice President Darrel Snook, Secretary Jennifer Yoder, Treasurer Deanne Bradford, Member, Flora Bramwell and One current Vacancy.

Services are delivered in accordance with the Federal and State of New Mexico codes, standards, regulations and licensure. This also includes HIPAA confidentiality laws.

The Behavioral Health Department defines criteria of treatment based on medical necessity, which is adhered to by Desert View Counseling. Community resources as well as law enforcement and judicial courts can and do confidently refer clients to treatment at Desert View Counseling.

Our 24 hour crisis line is handled by trained professionals ready to respond to sexual assault victims, their families and offer an immediate support system.
